Taking a page (so to speak) from @jowyang’s annual collections of social networking statistics, I’ve decided to curate a page of Canadian web statistics.
Given my interests, I expect this page will evolve focus on Canadian data on the social web in all its forms, including social networks, mobile, etc.
I’d love it if you could help me make this page valuable. Send me your links and info, and I will add it to this page! You can contact me on Twitter or via email.

- Comparsion of media use — “Overall, online Canadians are now spending more than 18 hours a week online, compared to 16.9 hours watching television. Internet usage is up from 14.9 hours last year. The number of hours watching television also experienced an increase in the last year, rising from 15.8 hours. Other media, such as newspapers, radio and magazines have all remained relatively stable in the last year.” — Ipsos Reid, Inter@ctive Reid Report, fielded in Q4, 2009

Social Media Use, Regional Focus

The United States followed at 17%, Sweden at 13%, Canada-Germany-United Kingdom at 12% and France at 11%.” — The Neilsen Company, Global Device Insights Report, Q1 2009.

Awesome idea!!!!
Wow that’s four exclamation points. Thanks Laura
This is already proving useful Peter – just provided the link to one of my colleagues. Think you’ll have another new reader/satisfied customer. No exclamation points.
And I still have to post up that link you sent me for this. Thanks again!
Would be good to add how many Canadians have access to the internet, specifically, how many have broadband access vs. dial up, and how many have home access vs. public access.
Hi Peter,
Awesome!
This is a fantastic idea. I am currently looking into the role SN can play in my company’s everyday bsuiness. There is definitely a shortage of Canadian data.
Thanks.
ACSI Debuts Satisfaction Results for Social Media Websites http://bit.ly/9I49Ke
I read a good one today about Youtube being the second largest search engine in the world (after Google of course) and I’ve heard a lot that Facebook was the 3rd largest country if you count all the users on it.
I’m not sure that information can be verified but I thought I’d share some of these thoughts with you and your readers.
By the way, nice blog!
